Children ages 8-12 are invited to explore science, technology, engineering, art and math through lively book discussions and hands-on activities during Tompkins County Public Library’s monthly STEAM Book Club.
Continuing
Wednesday, December 21 with a discussion of “Smile” by Raina Telgemeier, the STEAM Book
Club will encourage area students to improve their understanding of current
core competencies through critical thinking and book-related activities.
Raina
just wants to be a normal sixth grader. But one night after girl scouts she
trips and falls, severely injuring her two front teeth. Between insecurities
about her new appearance, a major earthquake, confusion over a boy and friends
who aren’t so friendly, Raina’s story runs the gamut of teen experiences and
emotions. Like most young adults, however, Raina overcomes her challenges and
finds herself in the process.
The
club will meet in the Library’s Thaler/Howell Programming Room at 3:45 p.m. for
discussion and refreshments.
Free
copies of “Smile” can be picked up at the Youth Services Reference Desk.
