Library to Host Program on Evolution of Language


Tompkins County Public Library will host, “The Evolution of Language,” a presentation by Cornell University Professor Morten H. Christiansen, Thursday, January 19 at 6 p.m. in the BorgWarner Community Room.

Being held in conjunction with Ithaca Explores Human Origins, TCPL and Paleantological Research Institution’s three-month exploration of what it means to be human, this program will offer a look at the origins of language, how children acquire language skills and how language has evolved.

Christiansen is the co-director of Cornell’s Cognitive Science Program, a professor of child language at Aarhus University and a senior scientist for Haskins Laboratories.
