Library to Close July 24 for Staff Training


Tompkins County Public Library will be closed Monday, July 24 for its annual Staff Development Day.

Library Director Susan Currie said the training day will help ensure that staff members are prepared to meet the changing needs of Library patrons.

Patrons will still be able to access account information and databases, place item holds and browse the library catalog by visiting http://tcpl.org/.

TCPL will re-open at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 25.

Library to Screen Shyamalan’s “Split”

Tompkins County Public Library will host a free screening of acclaimed director M. Night Shyamalan’s, “Split,” Saturday, July 8 at 2 p.m. in the BorgWarner Community Room.

Shyamalan hones his skills as the reigning master of psychological-thrillers with the 2017, “Split.” An energy-fueled drama, “Split” showcases Rob McAvoy at his best as childhood abuse survivor, Kevin. Struggling with Dissociative Identity Disorder, Kevin has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher, but it’s the one just under the surface that threatens those trapped within and around him.

This film is free and intended for an adult audience.

Library to Host Role Playing Gaming for Teens



In celebration of Summer Reading 2017, Tompkins County Public Library will host “Game On Summer: Worldbuilding,” a special program for tween and teen role-playing game enthusiasts, Mondays, July 17 through August 28 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the BorgWarner Community Room.

Hosted by Teen Services Librarian Regina DeMauro and Library Page Joah Bierkamper, these free sessions will focus on worldbuilding for RPGs, such as Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Burning Wheel, and World of Darkness. Teens will have an opportunity to run and join games while connecting with other gamers.

“Game on Summer: Worldbuilding” is being held in conjunction with the “Build a Better World” Teen Summer Reading Program. “Build a Better World” participants earn books and prizes by tracking the time they spend reading this summer.
