Tompkins County Public Library will host a screening of “Embrace of the Serpent,” Wednesday, August 24 at 6 p.m. in the BorgWarner Community Room.
This
2015 acclaimed adventure drama tells two related, though unique stories.
Set in 1909 and 1940 both stories follow Karamakate, and Amazonian shaman and
the last survivor of his tribe, as he accompanies scientists, Theodor
Koch-Grunberg and Richard Evans Schultes on their hunt for the rare yakruna, a
sacred plant.
Directed
by Ciro Guerra, “Embrace of the Serpent,” is based in part on the diaries of
the scientists and has received critical acclaim for its striking cinematography
and engrossing story.
This
screening is free and intended for an adult audience.
