Tompkins County Public library and the Ithaca Branch of the American Association of University Women will host author Lisa Harris for a discussion of her haunting family novel, “Allegheny Dream,” Saturday, November 19 at 11 a.m. in the Library’s BorgWarner Community Room.
Set in rural Pennsylvania, “Allegheny Dream,” follows three
generations of women as they fight to overcome the trauma of cruelty, sudden
death and the destruction of the valleys surrounding their mountain home. Myth and reality blend in
sharply etched scenes that capture the beauty and pain of uncovering the past.
The
author of “Geechee Girls,” Harris taught at Ithaca High School and Ithaca
College. She is currently a school administrator
and associate fellow at Bard College’s Institute of Writing and Thinking. “Allegheny Dream,” is her second novel.
This
program is free and open to the public.
