The
Tompkins County Public Library will launch Summer Reading 2012 June 22 with
free reading programs for infants, toddlers, elementary students and teens.
·READ TO ME! (ages 0 – 4): recognizes the important role reading plays in early childhood development and encourages parents, parents-to-be and other caregivers to foster a love of reading at an early age. Registrants who complete a Reading Bingo Card, featuring ideas on incorporating early literacy activities in their everyday routines, will receive a free book and chances to win gift certificates from local merchants. · DREAM BIG, READ: offers registered readers in grades K through 5 who read six books throughout the summer the opportunity to receive a certificate of participation, book prizes and the chance to win raffle items. Children can also post book reviews on the “Wild About Reading Book Blog” www.tcpl-kids.blogspot.com for additional chances to win. In celebration of the start of summer reading, the Library is offering kick off activities for each of its three programs:
Caregivers and children ages birth through 4 are invited to enjoy an interactive storytime and learn about the Read To Me Summer Reading Program during the Read to Me Kick Off Storytime, June 25 at 2 p.m. in the Thaler/Howell Programming Room.
The K-5 Summer Reading Celebration, June 23 from 2 to 3 p.m. will be a fun-filled event featuring a puppet show, music, games, crafts and more. This program is free and open to the public and will be held in the BorgWarner Community Room.
Tweens and teens will enjoy a free showing of “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” and popcorn while learning about the reading program, prizes and events to be held at TCPL this summer during Teen Movie Night June 28 from 5:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in the BorgWarner Community Room.
Attendees will have the opportunity to register for their respective summer reading programs during the kick off events.
