Young readers will have an opportunity to
practice their reading skills by sharing a story with a non-judgmental
four-legged friend this summer as the Tompkins County Public Library hosts “Dog
Days of Summer.”
Held each Wednesday, beginning at 2 p.m., from
June 27 through August 22 in the Thaler/Howell Programming Room, “Dog Days”
offers young readers an opportunity to practice their read-aloud skills by
reading to a certified therapy dog.
These reading sessions are perfect for children--of
all ages--looking to improve their reading skills. Many children who struggle
with reading also have issues with self-esteem. The “Dog Days” program
allows them to work on both while learning to associate reading with something
pleasant and enjoyable.
For more information or to register for a reading
slot, contact the Youth Services Department at (607) 272-4557 extension 275.
