Tompkins County Public Library will celebrate two enlightening
and inspiring exhibits during Downtown Ithaca’s Gallery Night from 5 to 8 p.m.
February 6.
Gallery Night attendees will be treated to after-hours access to
“What Would MLK Say Today?,” posters created for a contest of the same name,
sponsored by the Tompkins County Office of Human Rights, and “Evolution in Your
Backyard,” a multi-media display in collaboration with the Paleontological
Research Institute’s annual Darwin Days celebration.
“What Would MLK Say Today?” will showcase posters submitted to the
Office of Human Rights by Tompkins County residents of all ages. Artists
were asked to imagine and express how Martin Luther King, Jr.’s timeless
strategies for equality can be used today.
The award ceremony for the poster contest will begin at 6 p.m. in
the Library’s Avenue of the Friends. “Human Rights Revisited” will take place
from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the BorgWarner Community Room and include the 7 p.m.
panel discussion and community conversation “A Diversity of Perspectives.”
“Evolution in Your Backyard” will launch Darwin Days, PRI’s
annual, week-long celebration of Charles Darwin’s birthday.
The exhibit will feature specimens native to Ithaca and companion
graphics explaining what they teach about evolution and providing historical
information about Darwin Days.
Darwin Days will be held from February 8 through February 14 with
events planned at locations throughout Ithaca.
After-hours access to the Library during Gallery Night is
available through the BorgWarner Community Room entrance, adjacent to TCAT’s
Green Street bus shelter.
