Tompkins County Public Library will offer a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the renegade sound and video collective, The Residents, during a free screening of “Theory of Obscurity: A Film About The Residents,” Wednesday, May 25 at 6 p.m. in the BorgWarner Community Room-East.
“Theory
of Obscurity” spans 40 years of mystery and intrigue surrounding The
Residents, an American art collective recognized as much for their group
members’ anonymity as for their avant-garde music and multi-media productions.
The
film includes footage from the group’s 40th anniversary tour, as
well as interviews with fans, music critics, industry insiders and bands they
inspired, including Devo, Talking Heads, Pinback, Ween and Primus.
This
screening is intended for an adult audience.
