Library to Host Schwarz for Talk on College Success

Tompkins County Public Library welcomes high school students, families and guidance counselors for an informative talk on “How to Succeed in College and Beyond,” Thursday, October 20 at 6 p.m. in the BorgWarner Community Room.

Schwarz, the Frederic J. Whiton Professor of English Literature and a Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow at Cornell University, will share insight and practical advice for navigating the college experience from application to graduation.

A celebrated writer, Schwarz borrowed from his 48 year tenure at Cornell to develop his latest book, “How to Succeed in College and Beyond:  The Art of Learning.”  Many of the books’ chapters were adapted from his widely-read Huffington Post articles on higher education http://www.huffingtonpost.com/daniel-r-schwarz/ and supplemented by research and comments from university and college students, administrators and faculty.

During his Library talk, Schwarz will discuss the merits of a humanities degree, offer guidance on parenting during the college years, untangle the pros and cons of the Greek system and provide details about the financial aid process.

This program is free and open to the public.  Copies of Schwarz’ book will be available for purchase at the event.
