Library to Host Computer Science, Technology Program for Girls

Tompkins County Public Library, in partnership with the Cornell University Undergraduate Research Board and the National Center for Women and Information Technology, will present “Girl Code,” a one-day workshop for middle schools girls interested in technology and computer science, Sunday, March 19 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Library’s BorgWarner Community Room.

This free program will offer an opportunity for participants to tap into their creativity while making connections and learning about computer coding and technology from college students, professors and industry innovators. The program will also offer an introduction to robotics and a chance for girls to explore the equipment being used by one of Cornell’s engineering project teams.

Attendees are asked to bring a laptop or tablet. The library will have a limited number of extra devices available for program use.

All participants will receive a tee-shirt and prizes will be awarded.
