Tompkins County Public Library has announced “I Will Now Tell A Story,” a family-friendly storytelling event featuring Onondaga Nation Turtle Clan member Perry Ground, Wednesday, October 25 at 6 p.m. in the BorgWarner Community Room.
Filled
with traditional Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) legends, Ground’s stories will bring
to life—through vivid descriptions, rhythmic vocalizations and an active and
engaging stage presence--the beliefs, customs and history of the Haudenosaunee
people. This event will include opportunities for audience participation, lots
of humor and discussion about the art of storytelling.
Ground
has used stories as a means of educating people about the culture, beliefs and
history of the Haudenosaunee for 25 years. He has shared his stories, passed
down from elders of various Native American communities, in museums, libraries,
classrooms and festivals throughout the Northeast as a means of perpetuating
the oral traditions of Native people.
This
event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Youth
Services Librarian Kate DeVoe at kdevoe@tcpl.org
or (607) 272-4557 extension 277.
