Tompkins County Public Library, in celebration of Cornell University’s Charter Day, will host “Cornell Off Campus: The Impact of Cornellians on Tompkins County,” a photographic exhibit featuring Cornell alumni, faculty and friends.
Opening
April 22, “Cornell Off Campus” offers—through life-size photographs—a look at
15 people whose impact on Tompkins County stretched beyond Cornell’s East Hill
campus. Each of the individuals featured in the exhibit represents a
different decade in the University’s 150-year history. Their lives and
community contributions are explored with words and images.
Those
featured include: beloved Ithaca High School Science Teacher, Belle Sherman, Ithaca
Journal columnist Romeyn Berry and New York State Assemblywoman Connie Cook.
“Cornell
Off Campus” was curated by Cornell alumna Julee Johnson and designed by Robin
Adams of Whirlwind Design. The exhibit was made possible by through a
generous grant from Cornell University’s Office of Community Relations.
The
exhibit will be on display in the Library’s Avenue of the Friends through
July. An opening reception including curator-facilitated
tours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., May 1, in conjunction with Downtown Ithaca’s
Gallery Night.
