Tompkins County Public Library, in conjunction with its 2016 adult summer reading program, “Exercise Your Mind at TCPL,” will host Ithaca Journeys, a free hiking program designed to encourage community members to get active while exploring local natural settings.
Beginning Wednesday, July 13 with a hike through Cascadilla Gorge, Ithaca
Journeys is free and open to adults who enjoy shared, moderate-paced activity.
The Cascadilla hike will begin at Treman Triangle at the start of
the gorge trail at 10 a.m. and last approximately one hour. Facilitators
from the Library’s Information and Learning Services staff will share a short
poem, story or literary passage and provide snacks and water at the mid-way
point.
Additional Ithaca Journeys hikes are planned for July 20 at
Cornell University’s Lab of Ornithology, July 27 at the Carl Sagan Planet Walk
and August 3 with a guided tour of local outdoor art.
Participants are encouraged to seek the advice of a medical professional
before beginning any exercise program. The library is not responsible for
injuries sustained by participants during Ithaca Journeys programs.
Advance registration is required by emailing summerread@tcpl.org.
