Library to Host Solar Events in Advance of Eclipse

In anticipation of the August 21 solar eclipse, Tompkins County Public Library has announced two solar-themed programs for adults.

On Monday, August 7 at 5:30 p.m., the Library will host scientists from Cornell University’s Department of Astronomy and the Cornell University Center for Astrophysics and Planetary Science for an informative presentation exploring the science behind eclipses and tips for safely viewing the upcoming solar event.

TCPL’s solar programming will continue Tuesday, August 15 at 6 p.m. with a question and answer presentation on solar power from Gordon Woodcock of Taitem Engineering. Woodcock will share information about the science, technology and incentives behind solar energy.

A limited supply of free solar eclipse viewing glasses will be available at each program.

Both programs are free and will be held in the Library’s BorgWarner Community Room-East. Registration is appreciated but not required. To register, contact Cady Fontana at cfontana@tcpl.org.
