Tompkins
County Public Library and Tompkins County Historian Carol Kammen will host an
October 13 organizational meeting for area residents interested in helping to
create a new format for a “Place Names” book for the county.
Glenn
Norris published the first place names book in 1964, the Municipal Historian of
Tompkins County published another in 2004. This time, a larger format is
planned, with greater attention to the events on the land, expanding the
original books in size, scope and appeal.
This
meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the Library’s Tompkins Trust Company Study
Room. No prior experience is needed but a willingness to work over time
to bring to the public a dynamic new book that highlights placed and people and
events.
The
session is free and open to all community members interested in local history.
Please register in advance by contacting Kammen at ckk6@cornell.edu.
