Tompkins County Public Library, the Family Reading Partnership and Tompkins Learning Partners have announced “Read Along the Commons,” a community celebration of International Literacy Day, featuring pop-up, read aloud stories, Friday, September 8 from 4 to 5 p.m. on the Downtown Ithaca Commons.

Designed to highlight the importance of reading and lifelong learning, “Read Along the Commons” will feature volunteer readers from each of the three partner agencies willing to read aloud with attendees of all ages.

A program of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), International Literacy Day celebrates 50 years of national and international engagement, efforts and progress made to increase literacy rates around the world, while addressing current challenges and seeking innovative solutions for further increasing global literacy.

This program is free and open to the public.
