Tompkins County Public Library will host acclaimed
storyteller Regi Carpenter for a reading and discussion of her recently-released
book, "Where There's Smoke, There's Dinner: Stories of a Seared Childhood,"
Wednesday, September 6 at 6 p.m. in the BorgWarner Community
Room.
A contributor to the Library's Local Voices Collection,
Carpenter is a sought-after storyteller, bringing her unique blend of warmth,
humor and depth to dozens of performances for private groups, large festivals and
corporate conventions each year.
Her first full-length book, "Where There's Smoke," offers a
candid look at Carpenter's childhood on the St. Lawrence River. Filled with
heartbreak, hilarity and refreshing honesty, this collection of interwoven short
stories explores the triumphs and struggles of four generations of the Carpenter
family with candor, charisma and character--hallmarks that have helped make
Carpenter one of the area's most celebrated performers.
Carpenter's Library reading is free and open to the public.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase during the
event.
