Library to Host World Cinema Thursdays

Tompkins County Public Library has announced the selection of “The Exterminating Angel (El ángel exterminador)” as the August featured film for World Cinema Thursday, August 17, at 5:30 p.m. in the BorgWarner Community Room-East.

Directed by Luis Buñuel, “The Exterminating Angel” follows a group of high-society friends who find themselves inexplicably unable to leave a mansion where they had gathered for dinner. Made just one year after Buñuel’s international sensation, “Viridinia,” “The Exterminating Angel” is full of the eerie comic absurdity and acerbic criticism of the frivolities of the elite that fans have come to expect from Buñuel.

Facilitated by Ron Krieg, World Cinema Thursdays offer a monthly opportunity for movie lovers to watch and discuss world cinema classics. These free programs will be held on the third Thursday of each month through December 2017.

Krieg, a Queens native, is a retired United States Postal Service clerk and a cinema, photography, history and political science enthusiast. He has been presenting films at Lifelong of Ithaca for six years.
