Firefighters,
opera singers, and a newly-named college president will join the Tompkins
County Public Library Foundation’s Fifth Annual READATHON this weekend.
Being
held from noon on Saturday, September 23 to noon on Sunday, September 24 in
front of the Library, the READATHON aims to raise awareness and financial
support for the library and its collections.
A
24-hour read-aloud celebration of books and the freedom to read, the READATHON
will kick-off with a reading by Library Foundation Annual Appeal Chairs Dave
and Arjan Makar. Teams of City of Ithaca firefighters, members of Opera Ithaca
and an Ithaca College Leadership team led by President Shirley Collado will
join the fun before outgoing Library Director Susan Currie wraps up the event,
beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Community
members are encouraged to stop by during the day and evening for family fun and
late-night adult-appropriate laughs.
For
more information, contact Kerry Barnes or (607) 272-4557 extension 232.
